The Ninth International Conference on
Computing in Civil and Building Engineering
(ICCCBE-IX)

3-5 April 2002, Taipei, Taiwan

http://www.caece.net/~icccbe

Objective and Scope

This conference is the ninth international meeting sponsored by the International Society for Computing in Civil and Building Engineering (ISCCBE). Following the success of several previous ICCCBE conferences in New York (1981), Peking (1985), Vancouver (1988), Tokyo (1991), Anaheim (1993), Berlin (1995), Seoul (1997), and Stanford (2000), the Ninth ICCCBE conference will continue to bring together academics and practicing engineers to promote and exchange ideas, solutions, and experiences across a broad range of A/E/C topics related to Computing and Information Technologies. The aim of this conference is to present and discuss the new challenges in the A/E/C industry in the 21st Century and how advanced computing and information technologies can be used to address these challenges.

Theme

The theme of the ICCCBE-IX Conference is "Advanced Computing and Information Technologies in the A/E/C Industry to Meet the Challenges of the 21st Century." Following the footstep of the ICCCBE-VIII conference, the ICCCBE-IX Conference invites original contributions on completed research and work in progress that address issues defined by the following three dimensions:
  • Computing and Information Technologies (CIT) (see below);
  • A/E/C Disciplines (e.g., urban planning, surveying, design, structures, construction, materials, geotechnical, environmental, transportation, hydraulic, and water resources);
  • Phases of the Life-Cycle of A/E/C Products (e.g., buildings, bridges, facilities, infrastructure): pre-project, design, construction, facility management, operation & maintenance, decommissioning, etc.

Each individual contribution can be positioned in the three-dimensional space defined by CIT, A/E/C discipline, and Life-Cycle. For example, a particular contribution's position is succinctly described as Expert System/Structures/Maintenance. In addition, submissions should present CIT approaches, case studies, live demos, field studies, or practical experiences that support the life-cycle of A/E/C products. CIT topics include but are not limited to: Internet and World Wide Web, E-Commerce, Multimedia, Scientific Visualization, Virtual Reality, Image Processing, 4D CAD, Computer-aided Design, Office and Field Automation, Knowledge Management, Data Mining, Parallel and Distributed Computing, Product and Process Modeling and Integration, Databases, Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Artificial Intelligence, Neural Networks, Fuzzy Sets, Expert Systems, Case-based Reasoning, Modeling and Simulation, Ethics and Legal Issues in Computing Technology, Optimization, E-Learning.
