As you know, many countries all over the world, especially in Europe, wish construct additional protection, a shelter, around the rapidly-degrading existing concrete "sarcophagus".

This project is administrated by The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and details can be found at website http://www.ebrd.com/english/opera/nucsafe/index.htm. The finance is now in place. The EBRD unit in charge of the project is called the "Project Management unit" (PMU) and is composed of experts from several countries.

The so-called "Shelter Implementation Plan" (SIP) has a budget value that is between $300m and $500m. After 3 preliminary calls, the final call for design and realisation will probably be published in the next coming months, maybe in April for the earliest date. Several technological solutions are currently being investigated.
