 We are pleased to announce that a Thematic Network (TN) is to be proposed in the next Call for Proposals under the EU's 'GROWTH' programme. The deadline for submission is now the 15th May 2001 (see update section). We thus have a reasonable length of time to prepare a proposal and build a strong and effective thematic network (TN). This bid was formally launched at a recent EU construction research workshop held in Prague 12-13 October 2000. It signalled to the construction community that a major new initiative, aimed towards solving Europe's housing needs, has begun.

The TN will be called 'Manufactured Housing' and hence its acronym MANUHOUSE. This brings together the wisdom and experience of many national initiatives in housing and expertise won from other industrial sectors too. We have been actively encouraged by the EU to create this network.

We hope that, by the end of this introductory note, you will want to contact us to indicate your strength of interest in participating in this network. Manufacturers of Housing in the EU will form the core of the new network and so your interest is vital for the success of this commercially-oriented network.
