This paper investigates technological solutions for safe tower crane operation. Initially, to understand the severity of the problem a background research is done to investigate the impact of unsafe tower crane operation on human lives and the key factors that lead to accidents. The paper recognises human-related error as the most significant factor and emphasises on technologys potential for improving safety. Utilizing publications from the year 2011 onwards, a comprehensive quantitative and qualitative review is performed to explore the technological innovations addressing the issue. The review divides tower crane safety into pre-construction phase that plans, among other objectives, safe worksite layouts, and the construction phase that executes safe operations. It outlines the most recent technological innovations that involve tower cranes in both project phases. A synthesis informs about future research and industry initiatives for advancing tower crane safety.
